Ken Calendar's Masters 1-3 Field had four (yes four) people show up at the starting line. After some discussion they pushed the 35+ guys in with the 45+ open group. Mr. Calender "put a hurtin" on the entire field and rode across the line solo in victory. David Gagnon demonstrated his climbing legs and went with the lead group for the first lap and ended up in the top ten in the 35+ 4/5 group. Alan Ediger was with that group and finished mid pack. Jim Ivey experienced his first DNF in a road race. He was chasing the lead group in the valley and was about twenty years away when he went into a corner with sand a gravel a little too hot. A caution sign said “15MPH”, I guess 25MPH was a bit much. He ended the day being a firm believer in ALWAYS wearing your helment. Jim’s helmet busted in four places! Jeff Malnick: "Mr. Bad Luck". On the Tues night crit he yanked his rear derailleur into his spokes, bent his hanger and destroyed his wheel. He drives all the way to Orosi and breaks his seat bolt. Mike Hernandez of VOS (GREAT GUY) lends Jeff his new Rock Lobster bike and Jeff gets off the starting line. At the top of the major climb stands Jeff with a chain in his left hand.... and the bike in his right. Jeff, someone up top was telling you NOT to race Orosi. They started calling on Tues night..... next time answer the clue phone!
